A northeasterly has held for 6 hours at much the same temperature as the 10°C water. No thermal steer either way, but the drift still stacks food against the south-western end — the bank it is blowing into — so start there. This reads the upper water, though — a bottom bait at range feels it far less than a floater or a fish in the margins. Treat it as a tiebreaker between good swims rather than an override — features and angling pressure usually count for more.

About this water

Ffridd y Bwlch does something none of the other llyns in this book manage — it lets you park close, walk level ground, and fish from a bank that doesn't demand a mountain leg first. That alone makes it one of the more useful waters in the portfolio for anyone who can't or won't do the Conglog-style yomp. It's also one of only two Cambrian AA llyns holding stocked rainbow trout alongside the wild browns, which gives it a slightly different character to the rest — more forgiving, a bit more predictable, and a genuinely good choice for a short evening when the legs or the daylight are running out.
