The two Barlwyd lakes, one ten acres and one five, sit linked in the moorland about half an hour's walk from the lay-by on the Crimea Pass road — close enough to fit into an afternoon, far enough that you'll have earned the fishing by the time you get there. Wild brown trout only, spread across two connected pools that fish a little differently depending on wind direction, which gives you options on an awkward day rather than one fixed shoreline to work. A solid, unglamorous water and one of the more accessible of the remote llyns for that reason alone.
