How to fish it · for brown trout
When
Nymphing can work through most of the day.
Where
Cover mixed depths.
Method
Start with tight-line nymphs and adjust if fish rise or drift higher.
Kit
9 ft #4 rod, floating line, 12 ft tapered leader to 4–5 lb fluoro tippet.
Why this works
⚠️ Water at 21.5°C — above the brown trout caution line (18°C). Fish dawn or dusk only. Land it fast, wet hands, no air shots. Otherwise very poor — river flow is in the right range.

About this water

The Jerte rises on the Sierra de Gredos' northern slopes and flows west through the cherry-blossom Valle del Jerte. Two sin muerte tramos on the main river: upper (Tornavacas, piscina natural to Puente Navarro) and middle (Jerte and Cabezuela del Valle). Four tributary gargantas also sin muerte: Garganta San Martín, Garganta Becedas (both Tornavacas), Garganta Nogaleda (Navaconcejo), Garganta de la Luz/Las Monjas (Cabezuela). All steep granitic mountain streams — pocket water, plunge pools, fast boulder runs. Wild browns under catch-and-release, barbless single hooks only. Season: 3rd Sunday March–31 July. Tight-line nymphing, small nymphs, tiny dries.

What would change the calculation
Cooler water — back toward the 10–16 °C ideal band — would lift the score and ease welfare.
A drop and clear would lift the flow and clarity scores.
