The Ambroz rises on Pinajarro (2,099m) in the Sierra de Tras la Sierra and runs some 42km through the Valle del Ambroz — Hervás, the comarca's historic capital, sits on its banks — before joining the Alagón. A coto de pesca sin muerte covers the stretch between La Colonia (upper) and the mouth of the Río Baños (lower), across the municipalities of Garganta, Hervás and Aldeanueva del Camino. Granite mountain water in the same character as the Gredos trout streams further east: boulder-pocket runs, plunge pools, and clear, fast-draining flow. Wild brown trout, catch-and-release, artificial bait with a single barbless hook. Season: 3rd Sunday of March to 31 July.
