The Hinemaiaia — the 'Hine' — is a smaller eastern Taupō run river at Hatepe, a tidy little freestone that takes a good push of lake rainbows behind a fresh and fishes both its pools and its mouth. A good option to combine with the bigger TT and Tongariro, fished the same way: read the level, fish the falling clearing flow with weighted nymphs, and work the rip at the mouth.
A small river entering Lake Taupō's eastern shore at Hatepe, draining a chain of small hydro lakes in the hills behind. Modest in size but a genuine run river, its pools take lake rainbows behind the freshes, and its mouth fishes the rip like its bigger neighbours.
