When
Reo season 1 May to 31 July. The Eume's reo are highly water-dependent — fish after rain when fresh fish push up the river. Stocks fragile and rainfall-driven.
Where
Lower Eume below the Fragas do Eume gorge and the estuary above the sea. Pool tails and the tidal margins where reo settle.
Method
Across-and-down on a floating line with small wets — Medicine, small Bibio, Stoat's Tail. Fish the dropping water after rain. Fragile fishery — fish carefully, release with care.

About this water

Beautiful trout and sea-trout river — salmon no longer present. Carves through an ancient Atlantic forest gorge (Fragas do Eume, Special Area of Conservation). Strong brown trout populations in boulder-strewn upper sections; sea trout in lower reaches. The 4-hour response time means morning rainfall yields afternoon fishing. Exceptional natural setting with restricted access preserving ecology.

Hatches & food

In Galicia's Atlantic trout rivers, resident browns feed through a spring build-up of olives and other up-wings into a long summer of caddis and small buzzers, with frequent spates and cool water keeping fish active; terrestrials from lush banks and meadows become important once levels settle and the banks green up.
