A western Cantabrian coastal river in the Gandarilla zone, flowing through Roiz and the Valle de Valdáliga to the sea near Comillas. The Escudo is a small spate river with mixed-geology freestone bedrock — pool-riffle structure, partial canopy, classic small-Atlantic character. Wild brown trout only. Best fished in May and June; the river drops away in summer.
