How to fish it · for sea trout
When
From dusk into the first half of the night.
Where
Deeper pools and slower glides · hold water and current seams.
Method
Fish dark patterns on a sink-tip or lightly sunk line, especially near structure.
Kit
10 ft #6/7 rod, floating line with a sink-tip option, 8–10 lb fluoro tippet for the swing.
Why this works
Good conditions. Temperature is favourable (100), Prey activity is weakest (50). ⏰ Sea trout become most active from an hour before dusk. This stretch closes at 22:15 — your legal window captures the start of the best fishing. Fish the last 90 minutes hard. Overcast evenings extend the effective window.

About this water

Small eastern coastal river near Llanes. Very short course. Resident trout and a fragile sea trout run. Loads of mullet in the estuary.

Under the surface

The Purón is a short limestone stream descending to the coast near Llanes — barely 10 km, but the geology punches above its size. Limestone cobble and bedrock give the river exceptional clarity; even after a summer spate it clears faster than the surrounding slate-fed drainages. The step-pool sequence and confined valley keep gradients steep. Spate events hit hard and recede quickly — the limestone base drains fast rather than sustaining a prolonged rise. On the drop, the pools focus fish. Wading demands respect: polished wet limestone at step lips can be treacherous underfoot.
