About this water

The Miera is Cantabria's premier pure trout water — limestone spring-fed clarity combined with compact, responsive catchment ideal for technical sight-fishing. Rising in karst upstream of Liérganes, it's the fastest-responding major Cantabrian river (3 hours). Spates develop and subside rapidly; experienced anglers time visits for the brief window of ideal water colour. The 41 km concentrates excellent fishing into relatively small area with numerous day-ticket beats. Limestone ensures exceptional clarity supporting prolific, notably larger wild brown populations. Dry fly is dominant — pocket water demands precision; slower pools reward careful stalking of visible fish. Sea trout July onwards add summer dimension. Easy road access and lodge infrastructure make this the most angler-friendly Cantabrian option for trout specialists.
