About this water

A short Miño tributary draining the Ribeiro wine country south of Leiro. The Avia is wild brown trout water on granite freestone bedrock, the kind of small Galician river that gets overlooked in favour of the famous Atlantic systems but rewards anglers willing to walk. Best fished in the middle reaches above Leiro from May into early July, before low summer water concentrates fish into the deeper holding pools.
