A Pontevedra river falling from the Serra do Suído to the head of the Ría de Vigo at Pontesampaio. The Verdugo is one of Galicia's classic sea-trout (reo) systems — granite freestone water, partial canopy, with the lower reaches around Soutomaior and Ponte Caldelas holding the running fish. Wild brown trout throughout the middle and upper river. Best fished in May and June for trout, with reo interest building from July after summer rain.
