Caddis dry
G&H Sedge
Trichoptera, ADULT
Trout · GraylingSurface
The original spun-and-clipped deer-hair sedge from John Goddard and Cliff Henry — a buoyant, tent-winged caddis with a green dubbed underbody and trimmed hair body. Marketed in the US as the Goddard Caddis, it is the unsinkable evening-sedge fly.
Fish this when
July and August evenings as the sedge hatch builds and trout that ignored everything by day come up. Cast to a riser, or twitch it across the surface to imitate an egg-laying sedge skating home.
Why it works
The clipped deer hair traps air for an unsinkable, light-footed adult-sedge silhouette, and a small twitch sends out the wake that convinces a trout it is the real, fluttering insect.
