Caddis dry
Deer Hair Sedge
Trout · SalmonSurface
Deerhair body and wing — a robust sedge pattern that floats high and is visible from the bank. Bulk and buoyancy are the point, not delicate imitation.
Fish this when
Late spring and summer evenings when sedges are laying eggs. Fish it in fast water and rough conditions where a more subtle pattern would disappear. Salmon use: low, warm water (above 14°C) on smooth pools — skate or dead-drift to provoke aggressive surface takes from grilse.
Why it works
Deerhair is highly buoyant and visible. Bulk reads like a large sedge. Works in wind and fast water where sparse patterns fail.
