Water temperature is the limiting factor today, not the wave. Fish dawn or dusk if you go at all, and handle everything with extra care.

How to fish it · for trout
When
Conditions are not ideal but fishable at Lac Saint-Point. Flat calm means fish may be spookier — longer leaders and subtler flies will help. Very warm conditions — trout have a narrower safe zone of cool, oxygen-rich water. Fish only at first light or last light, use barbless hooks, keep fish in the water during release, and stop if fish struggle to recover.
Where
Start with Damsel Nymph (12-14) on a slow figure-of-eight or hang under indicator. If that does not produce, switch depth or speed before changing the pattern entirely. When no hatch is visible, a buzzer team — black stripped quill on the point, attractor or pearl-rib on the top dropper — is the default starting point on any UK stillwater.
The plan
Plan A

Start with Damsel Nymph (12-14) on a slow figure-of-eight or hang under indicator. If that does not produce, switch depth or speed before changing the pattern entirely. When no hatch is visible, a buzzer team — black stripped quill on the point, attractor or pearl-rib on the top dropper — is the default starting point on any UK stillwater.

Plan B

Fish early and late, try deeper during the heat of the day with a fast-sinking line.

Watch for

Evening tends to be the best period in summer — stay late if you can for a sedge or spinner fall.

Bank

Flat calm suits bank fishing near features — points, weed beds, and inflows where fish patrol.

About this water

Lac Saint-Point lies high in the Haut-Doubs, a long natural lake fed by limestone springs and cradled in the folds of the Jura. The water runs cold and clear, and the trout in it carry the manners of that mineral country — unhurried, precise, intolerant of a clumsy approach. A boat is the natural way to read it: drift the wind lanes, watch where the surface tightens over a shelf, and let the fish show you where the lake is feeding. In the warmer months it stratifies, and the trout drop to follow the cool and the food. Patience and a careful eye for the wind are worth more here than distance.
