How to fish it · for brown trout
When
Nymphing can work through most of the day.
Where
Cover mixed depths.
Method
Start with tight-line nymphs and adjust if fish rise or drift higher.
Kit
9 ft #4 rod, floating line, 12 ft tapered leader to 4–5 lb fluoro tippet.
Why this works
⚠️ Water at 21.3°C — above the brown trout caution line (18°C). Fish dawn or dusk only. Land it fast, wet hands, no air shots. Otherwise very poor — barometric pressure is in the right range.

About this water

Galicia's largest river and the natural border with Portugal — a massive granite-based system with deep migratory-fish heritage. Salmon are now depleted and out of bounds in Galicia, so the Miño should no longer be framed as an active salmon river. In practical terms it is a huge, weather-driven system where trout matter in the upper reaches and the river's broader ecological and heritage value often outweighs straightforward fly-fishing convenience.

What would change the calculation
Cooler water — back toward the 10–16 °C ideal band — would lift the score and ease welfare.
A drop and clear would lift the flow and clarity scores.
The dawn and dusk windows score higher than the midday lull.

  • Trout1 May → 31 July

Sea trout: Variable seasonal (2026) — The Miño holds reo in its lower reaches and estuary but the river's scale, regulation, and salmon ban make sea trout fishing marginal and unstructured. Present but not promoted as a destination sea-trout fishery.

Salmon: Heritage only (2026) — Salmon fishing banned in Galicia by 2026 Xunta decree. Heritage salmon river — not a salmon fishing destination.
