A Las Merindades trout river rising in the Sierra Salvada above Espinosa de los Monteros and falling east into the Nela near Medina de Pomar. The Trueba is one of northern Burgos's most respected wild brown trout rivers — limestone-influenced freestone geology, clear water, classic pool-riffle structure through wooded country. Heavily fished by anglers from Madrid and the Basque country. Best in the middle reaches between Espinosa and Trespaderne from late April through July; the upper Sierra Salvada gorges hold up later.
