About this water

A cross-border river running through the Valle de Carranza on the Cantabria-Bizkaia boundary, joining the Asón near Ramales de la Victoria. The Carranza is granite-and-schist freestone water, with classic pool-riffle structure through the wooded middle reaches around Lanestosa. Wild brown trout only. The gauge sits at Pondra in the Asón system. Best fished from May through June; the river warms quickly in summer.
