About this water

Sweden's — and Europe's — largest undammed river system, shared with Finland as the Tornionjoki. This is one of the defining Baltic salmon systems, home to Europe's largest remaining wild Atlantic salmon population. Brown trout, grayling, and Arctic char complete the mix. The Torne system matters enormously to the Baltic salmon assessment, and its stock trajectory shapes regional management policy. Fish it with awareness that this is a river of national and international significance, not just another destination beat. Salmon runs June–August with hitch flies and small tubes effective in warm, clear Lapland summer conditions. Mandatory C&R on the Swedish side since 2021. Fiskekort from local FVOF.
