The Owenglin runs off the Twelve Bens through Clifden to the sea — a classic Connemara granite spate river, open for 2026 as a brown-tag fishery. Salmon enter from February; grilse and sea trout follow in summer. As with all these mountain rivers, it is the flood that brings the fish, and fishing it low is rarely worth the walk. Clifden and Connemara permits; the Salmon and Sea Trout State Licence is required.
