The short river draining Lough Beltra to the sea at Newport, Co. Mayo — part of the wider Burrishoole system that has been the centre of Marine Institute Atlantic salmon research (the Furnace laboratory) for close to forty years. Flow is buffered somewhat by Lough Beltra above, giving a steadier character than a typical short coastal spate river. Salmon and sea trout run through the summer, with the best of the fishing from July into August. Brown trout are present throughout.
No venue-specific hatch data yet; treat the flies above (from regional consensus) as a starting point rather than an observed hatch calendar.
