The Kuusinkijoki is the smaller Kuusamo river — which, given the company it keeps, is not a criticism. Easier wading than the Kitkajoki, with pools that a single angler can cover properly in a morning rather than a day. Wild brown trout and grayling in clear water; the fish are selective in the way that only clear, cold, undisturbed water produces. Fish it in July and early August, before the brief Kuusamo autumn arrives and the trout begin thinking about something other than surface flies.
