About this water

The Kitkajoki flows through the Kuusamo wilderness in northern Finland — one of the genuinely fine dry-fly rivers in northern Europe, which is a claim most rivers can't make and mean it. Big brown trout in crystal water over clean gravel, holding in the current seams where food concentrates. Grayling in the slower pool tails. The national park setting means the riverside forest is intact and the fish have been disturbed by nothing worse than the odd bear. The season is short; the midsummer evenings are long, which makes up for it.
