The most important salmon spawning tributary on the Swedish west coast. Högvadsån is a key tributary of the Ätran system, and Falkenberg identifies it as biologically load-bearing — the main river and this tributary are repeatedly flagged as the most significant salmon spawning grounds on the entire west coast. Sea trout also present, alongside resident brown trout. A smaller, more intimate river than the main Ätran, with classic Halland spate character and good access through local fiskekort. Granite-based upland geology shapes this river. Atlantic salmon are managed under national rules (Havs- och vattenmyndigheten) — quotas, size limits and catch-and-release apply and differ between Baltic and west-coast rivers; check current rules before fishing.
