SFK Laxen's water at Lilla Edet is run as four distinct, formally-defined zones rather than one open stretch — each with its own permit, price and rulebook, confirmed directly from the club's own English rules page (2026-08-21). Red-card holders may also fish Yellow2; anyone with a Red, Blue or Yellow permit may also fish the Green zone at no extra cost. A genuinely serious fishery: mandatory electronic + logbook catch recording, an active fisheries supervisor, and strict handling rules for released fish (never lift a fish from the water for a photo).

The 4 beats
Red Zone / Yellow2 — bank fishingDay tickets
SFK Laxen
The main land-based salmon water. Red-card holders may also fish Yellow2, where fly fishermen have priority. Fishing is mobile — the basic rule is three casts, one step downstream.
150 kr/period. No wading on Red. Children under 15 fish only with an adult; under-12s fish on an adult's licence when resting. Shore fishing has priority over boat fishing above the bridge; below the bridge boat fishing has priority except for fly fishermen on Yellow2. General rules apply (45cm minimum, salmon quota, wild-salmon release from 1 Sept, life jacket compulsory).
Blue Zone — boat fishingDay tickets
SFK Laxen
Boat-based fishing from moored boats above and below the bridge. Genuine infrastructure: club-hired boats, locked life-jacket cabinet, maintenance windows built into the fishing day.
150 kr/period + boat rental (200 kr non-members, 100 kr members). Minimum age 18 to rent a boat; under-15s may only accompany a guardian. Max 2 anglers/boat. Boat may not leave the dock more than 15 min before the period starts. Above the bridge, fishing only from the buoy; below the bridge only 50m downstream, anchored, trolling prohibited. Uncleaned-boat fee 350 kr. General rules apply.
Yellow Zone — fly fishing onlyDay tickets
SFK Laxen
Traditional fly rod and fly only — no other methods permitted. Booking-box system with a 3-booking cap per angler, and anglers share turns when the zone is busy.
250 kr/period, the most expensive zone. Only traditional fly fishing with fly rod and fly. Max 3 pre-bookings per angler. No wading above knee height. Fly line max sink level 3. Yellow salmon quota: max 2/period, 3/day. General rules apply (45cm minimum, wild-salmon release from 1 Sept).
Green Zone — general waterDay tickets
SFK Laxen
The relaxed, all-species option — salmon and sea trout fishing runs 15 April to 14 October, while other species (pike, perch, zander, roach, bream and the rest of the river's mixed coarse fishery) are open year-round. Red, Blue and Yellow permit holders can fish here free as well.
Day 40 kr / week 60 kr / year 120 kr. No life jacket requirement. Max 3 rods. Tackle may carry more than 2 hooks and doesn't need the reduced-breaking-strength terminal tackle required elsewhere. "Lazy angler" (extended float/bait) fishing is permitted here, unlike the other zones. Salmon/sea trout still subject to the 45cm minimum and general quota/release rules when in season.
Permits & access
Permit required — see local rules.
  • Zone permit required (Red/Yellow2 150 kr/period, Yellow 250 kr/period, Blue 150 kr/period + boat rental, Green 40/60/120 kr day/week/year)
  • Red/Blue/Yellow card holders may also fish the Green zone free
  • 45cm minimum, salmon quota 20/season & 3/day (2/period in Yellow), all wild salmon released after 1 September, mandatory electronic + logbook catch recording, life jackets compulsory outside the Green zone
  • See access_zones for full per-zone rules — this is a genuinely complex, well-run fishery, not a casual walk-up water.

About this water

SFK Laxen manages the historic salmon fishery right at Lilla Edet on Göta älv — rights held via Vattenfall and Lilla Edet municipality. Salmon fishing here dates back centuries; after a modern low of ~200 salmon/year when organised angling began in 1983, catches have grown to 700-1,000 salmon a year on the stocked Säveålax strain, with the club's stated goal of returning to historic volumes and becoming one of Sweden's best salmon waters. This is a serious, formally zoned fishery — four named zones (Red/Yellow2 bank water, Blue boat water, Yellow fly-only water, Green general water) each with their own rules, run by an active fisheries supervisor with mandatory catch registration. Alongside salmon and sea trout, Göta älv carries over 20 fish species: pike, perch, roach, common bream, zander, brown trout, crucian carp, ide, common rudd, tench, eel, chub, vendace, common bleak, silver bream, rainbow trout and asp are all present.
