About this water

A Costa da Morte river running west from Santa Comba through the Pena Espiñeira gorge and falling spectacularly into the Atlantic at the Fervenza do Ézaro — until the 1950s, the only ocean-falling waterfall in continental Europe. The lower river is dammed into a chain of small reservoirs; the upper Xallas above Santa Comba and the Mazaricos middle reach remain fishable as honest granite-freestone trout water. Wild brown trout only. Best fished in May and June; the dammed lower river is not in scope for fly fishing.
