How to fish it · for brown trout
When
Nymphing can work through most of the day.
Where

Kit
9 ft #4 rod, floating line, 12 ft tapered leader to 4–5 lb fluoro tippet.

About this water

The Whitewater is a Loddon tributary in northeast Hampshire — pure chalk water, spring-fed, clear enough to watch a trout inspect and reject your fly from twelve feet. Which it will. The chalk stream is an education in the gap between being good enough and being good enough on a particular day when the fish have decided to be particular about it; the Whitewater's trout have decided to be particular for as long as anyone can remember. Small water, almost entirely private syndicate. One of those rivers that makes you better at every other river you'll ever fish.
