How to fish it · for brown trout
When
Nymphing can work through most of the day.
Where

Method
Start with tight-line nymphs and adjust if fish rise or drift higher.
Kit
9 ft #4 rod, floating line, 12 ft tapered leader to 4–5 lb fluoro tippet.
Why this works
⚠️ Water at 20.9°C — above the brown trout caution line (18°C). Fish dawn or dusk only. Land it fast, wet hands, no air shots. Otherwise very poor — river flow is in the right range.

About this water

The Anton is one of Hampshire's most highly-regarded chalk-stream tributaries of the Test — running 13 miles from Anton Pond near Andover through the famous Fullerton fishery to the Test confluence. Pure chalk water of exceptional clarity with strong olive hatches and prolific weed growth. Wild and stocked brown trout plus grayling. Almost entirely private syndicate water; Fullerton beats sometimes available to guests via the Test Valley fishery hotel structure.

What would change the calculation
Cooler water — back toward the 10–16 °C ideal band — would lift the score and ease welfare.
A drop and clear would lift the flow and clarity scores.
The dawn and dusk windows score higher than the midday lull.
