South-eastern end

A southeasterly has held for 9 hours, running colder than the water (5°C air against 8°C water). The end it blows into is taking that chilled surface water, so try the sheltered south-eastern end instead — off the back of the wind, where the undertow returns food along the bottom. That chill sits in the top of the water, though, and the bed is slower to feel it — on a bottom bait it is the undertow, not the temperature, that puts you at this end. Treat it as a tiebreaker between good swims rather than an override — features and angling pressure usually count for more.

When
Ice-off through June; September–October.
Where
Set up a broadside drift and cover the water systematically. Work a bushy searching pattern on the bob and drop a contrasting nymph on the point.
The plan
Plan A

Set up a broadside drift and cover the water systematically. Work a bushy searching pattern on the bob and drop a contrasting nymph on the point.

Plan B

If the main plan is not working, switch to a smaller, more imitative pattern fished slower and deeper. A change of drift angle can also make a difference.

Watch for

Keep an eye on changing conditions — wind shifts and cloud breaks can trigger short feeding spells.

Boat — drift

A gentle ripple is ideal for drifting — broadside drift covering the wind lanes should be productive.

About this water

Sealey Lake is the easy trout lake at the north end of Narrow Hills — right off the Hanson Lake Road, with a proper boat launch and dock, which is rarer up here than you'd think. The hatchery put in something like twelve thousand rainbows and nine thousand brook trout a year through 2024, which is a lot of fish for 182 acres. Narrow Hills lakes weren't stocked in 2025, after the SHOE Fire, so expect fewer small fish and more carryovers for a season or two.

Under the surface

A 182-acre lake at the north end of Narrow Hills Provincial Park, stocked every year from 2020 to 2024 with about 12,000 rainbow and 9,000 brook trout. Boat launch with dock, picnic area and fish-cleaning shack off the Hanson Lake Road.
