Two hundred and twenty kilometres of water, and the stretch that matters for fly fishing runs through Belluno and down to Longarone, where the Piave settles into cold, clear Dolomite limestone current — proper marble trout water, with brown trout on the seams and grayling showing in the Belluno currents for anyone patient enough to spot them. It's a big river with a gorge country temperament, wide in places, tight in others; read it in sections rather than treating it as one long run.
