How to fish it · for Marble Trout
When
Low light — first and last hour of the day. Marbles are sparser here than on the Piave or Cordevole; treat any as a bonus fish rather than a plan. Season 7 March to 28 September, but retention is prohibited outright regardless of the calendar.
Where
The deeper glides and undercuts as the valley opens out below Cortina, through the lower Cadore stretches toward the Piave confluence.
Method
Streamer on intermediate line through the deeper holding water, worked slowly. Barbless single hook, release with the fish still in the net.
Kit
9 ft #5/6, intermediate line, 8 lb fluoro. Compact streamers rather than the big baitfish patterns a wider river would take. Wet net.

About this water

The Piave's principal tributary alongside the Cordevole, and a proper Dolomite torrent — forty-five kilometres of dolomite and limestone dropping south through Cortina d'Ampezzo and Cadore before it joins the main river at Perarolo. Narrower and more technical than the Piave itself: tight corridors through spruce forest, short pools behind glacial boulders, wild brown trout throughout and marble trout showing occasionally as the valley opens out below Cortina. Cold, clear water that rewards a quiet approach more than a clever fly.
