About this water

An Esla headwater rising in the Picos de Europa above Vegacerneja. Short, steep, alpine — the Orza fishes like a stream rather than a river through most of its course, with plunge pools, pocket water and overhanging beech. Wild brown trout only. Best in June and July once snowmelt has cleared; the river is more or less unfishable through the spring freshet.
