Coch Hwyad sits up in the hills above Llanbrynmair, on ground the small local association has fished quietly for generations without much need to advertise the fact. Wild brown trout, upper Twymyn water, the kind of lake that barely registers outside the immediate valley and doesn't seem to mind. There's no boat, no stocking programme, no ticket booth with a laminated price list — just a club that knows its own water and members who'd probably rather you didn't make too much noise about it. If you can find someone to point you at it, and get permission sorted, it's an honest hill lake doing exactly what it's always done.
