The Drish is one of the Tipperary rivers nobody much writes about — small, freestone, running through farm country with more wild brown trout than it has any right to. You can have it entirely to yourself on a Tuesday in May, which is either a sign that the rest of the world has overlooked something or simply that you've been paying attention. The fish are modest, the access is simple, the afternoon is yours.

EPA freshwater monitoring on the River Drish confirms mayflies, caddis, aquatic diptera and freshwater crustaceans (including hoglice and, notably, white-clawed crayfish) are present, with stoneflies recorded more sparsely. This is food-presence evidence from kick samples, not a confirmed hatch pattern.
