Blae & Black

TroutSubsurface

One of the oldest patterns in Scottish loch fishing: black body, grey-blue blae wing — a close imitation of the dark midge pupae that Highland loch trout eat in large quantities throughout the season. Unpretentious, old, and works every time it should.

Fish this when

Any time trout are taking midges on a Scottish loch, which is most of the time. Point fly on a three-fly cast behind something brighter on the top dropper. Slow figure-of-eight retrieve.
