Classic loch wet
Connemara Black
Trout · Sea troutFilm
The fly most associated with Connemara — black body with a blue-green sheen, jungle-cock cheeks, palmered hackle. It looks like something found at the bottom of a very old tackle box, which is exactly what it is. In the peaty water of the blanket bog loughs, over a drift in the west wind, it works with the unshakeable regularity of something that doesn't need to be explained.
Fish this when
Any drift on a Connemara or Mayo lough. Brown trout and sea trout both take it. Top dropper or middle dropper — it belongs on every Connemara team, in any conditions.
