On a calm summer evening stillwater during a chironomid hatch, fished static or on the slowest of retrieves so the fly can hang undisturbed in the surface film.

Why it works

The foam bead buoys the thorax so the abdomen hangs straight down exactly as a real pupa does while it works free of its shuck, a passive vertical posture a weighted fly can't fake.
