A foam-bodied ant imitation for the summer ant falls that occur on Asturian and central Spanish rivers — the segmented waist of the ant pinched in foam, black or rusty in colour. When the flying ants come off in August, selective trout take nothing else.

Summer ant falls on Spanish and central European rivers — typically warm, calm afternoons in July and August. Fish it static in the film; these fish are highly selective.

Why it works

Ants in a fall sit immobile in the film with a very distinct silhouette — pinched waist, two segments. Fish feeding on them become very selective. A foam body creates the right flush presentation and is durable enough to survive multiple takes.
