Foam Ant
A foam-bodied ant imitation for summer ant falls — the segmented waist pinched in foam, black or rusty in colour. When flying ants come off in late summer, selective trout take nothing else, from Spanish and central European rivers to American spring creeks and Patagonian freestone.
Warm, calm afternoons in mid-to-late summer when flying ants are falling — watch for ants on the water or crawling on streamside rocks. Fish it static in the film; these fish are highly selective and refuse anything that drags.
Ants in a fall sit immobile in the film with a very distinct silhouette — pinched waist, two segments. Fish feeding on them become very selective. A foam body creates the right flush presentation and is durable enough to survive multiple takes.
