Upwing dry
Beacon Beige
Baetidae, DUN
Trout · GraylingSurface
Peter Deane's refinement of the old Devon Beige — a stripped-quill body palmered with badger and red-game hackle points. A superb broken-water olive dun that sits up and stays visible where flatter patterns drown.
Fish this when
A general olive dun imitation through the spring and summer hatch, especially on rough or quick water where its cocked hackle keeps it riding high. Works on chalk streams and freestone alike.
Why it works
The mixed badger-and-red-game hackle gives a translucent, mottled footprint in the surface film that reads as a natural dun, while the stiff fibres keep it afloat in turbulence.
