Adams Parachute
A trusted general-purpose dry. The parachute post makes it visible in broken water while the body sits low in the film like a real dun.
Fish it any time trout are rising and you are unsure what they are taking. The low silhouette and visible post make it readable in broken water and flat glides alike.
The parachute hackle sits the fly flat in the film, mimicking a spent or drifting dun. The white poly post is a visibility aid for the angler without spooking the fish.
Starting points, not rules — depth, presentation and size usually matter more.
The grey Adams is the general starting point — try a darker body in dull weather and a paler one for light-coloured mayflies. A Purple Haze or other attractor colour can work in broken water. Changing the parachute-post colour is usually about your own visibility against glare or a dark bank, not the insect underneath.
Sits on the surface by design — adding split-shot or sinking it is rarely useful; simply tie on a smaller or lower-floating pattern instead.

Tie the post first, wind the hackle around its base parachute-style. Muskrat or grey dubbing for the body. Keep hackle sparse.
