The Vedder — the lower Chilliwack — is the most accessible serious steelhead river in BC, an hour or two from Vancouver, with a strong hatchery-supported winter run and good autumn salmon. It's busy and road-side rather than remote, but it fishes genuinely well from late February into spring and is where a lot of BC fly anglers learn the swung fly. Retain marked hatchery fish where allowed, release the wild ones, and expect company on the good runs.
