How to fish it · for brown trout
When
Nymphing can work through most of the day.
Where

Method
Start with tight-line nymphs and adjust if fish rise or drift higher.
Kit
9 ft #4 rod, floating line, 12 ft tapered leader to 4–5 lb fluoro tippet.
Why this works

About this water

The Deutsche Traun — flagship Bavarian trout and grayling river. Among the few Bavarian rivers where brown trout, rainbow trout and grayling still reproduce naturally. The Hochberg stretch is crystal-clear holding trout and grayling in premium alpine-river water. Established beat-style management with strong fish stocks. Multiple sources point to this as one of the safest German rivers to include with confidence. Excellent nymphing and dry fly with good hatches. Clear limestone water flowing from the Chiemsee lake district.
