RD Jesenice's trophy water, and the odd one out in this pack: sixty hectares of the Sava Dolinka held up behind the Moste dam, in a gorge that looks like nowhere else on the river. It fishes as a stillwater — off the bank where the level lets you, or from a belly boat, which is how most people do it and which the club will hire you. Fly only, catch and release, no exceptions. Brown trout grown heavy on reservoir feeding, rainbows, grayling that have dropped down out of the river, and chub, which are more entertaining than anyone quite admits. The level is dam-controlled rather than rain-controlled, so the usual river read — it rained, therefore it rose — does not hold here, and a bank you walked in August can be under water after a wet week. Stay off the last hundred metres above the barrier.
