How to fish it · for Brown Trout
When
Through the open season, April through September. Late spring once the snowmelt has dropped — Carpathian flows take their time settling. Afternoon hatches in summer, midday in cooler months.
Where
Pool-riffle pockets, gravel runs, and the seams behind boulders through the upper San in the Bieszczady. Quieter water away from the famous huchen beats.
Method
Polish-style competition nymphing — Perdigons short-line through the pockets, hare's ear or pheasant tail on the dropper. Swap to dries when sedges or olives come off.
Kit
10 ft #3 nymphing rod for the heavy lifting; 9 ft #4 for dries. 4 to 5 lb fluoro tippet, 12 ft leader.
Why this works
Water at 22.7°C. This is the line where catch-and-release kills brown trout. Do not fish for them today.

Cooler water — back toward the 10–16 °C ideal band — would lift the score and ease welfare.
A drop and clear would lift the flow and clarity scores.
The dawn and dusk windows score higher than the midday lull.
