About this water

Salt Creek is the Little Calumet's Portage tributary, a small clay-and-sand creek that pulls in a share of Indiana's Lake Michigan steelhead, coho and chinook. The public water at Imagination Glen Park is the easiest place to start, with Haven Hollow and the DNR's public fishing areas near Valparaiso further up. It's flashy and suburban and fishes best on a falling, clearing creek a day or two after rain. It's a good second option when the East Arm is crowded.

Conservation note

Lake-run fish only; Indiana DNR names Salt Creek among the tributaries most of the chinook, coho and steelhead return to. Whether Salt Creek itself is a stocking site is not confirmed. No wild trout.
