Trail Creek
Trail Creek is the Indiana omission that stops the pack being Great Lakes-complete. It is a compact Michigan City tributary with public access sites and a real Lake Michigan salmon/steelhead run — especially important because Indiana has far fewer classic tributary options than Michigan or New York. Treat it as access-site driven and rule-sensitive.
Steelhead, Chinook salmon, coho salmon
Steelhead Oct–Apr; salmon Sep–Oct when runs materialise
Methods
- •Egg/bead nymphing through access pools
- •Small nymphs for winter/spring steelhead
- •Streamers in coloured water
Recommended flies
Tactical notes
Indiana is access-site driven. Wire named access points rather than a single vague river pin.
Regulations
Indiana licence and Lake Michigan trout/salmon rules. Verify public access sites, ladder/dam exclusion zones and current size/creel rules before launch.
