On the Argentine side, before the Futaleufú crosses into Chile and turns into the thunderous whitewater it's known for internationally, this stretch runs altogether gentler — clear, granite-bedded water near Trevelin with the unhurried character of a spring creek rather than a freestone torrent.

About this water

On the Argentine side, before the Futaleufú crosses into Chile and turns into the thunderous whitewater it's known for internationally, this stretch runs altogether gentler — clear, granite-bedded water near Trevelin with the unhurried character of a spring creek rather than a freestone torrent. Slow glides and undercut banks hold browns and rainbows that sip small dries with real deliberation, rewarding a size 18 CDC emerger or Foam Ant fished on a long, fine leader more than anything bold. It's quieter water than the famous rafting river downstream, fished mostly with a guide given how little formal access detail is settled for casual visitors. Wind off the Andes can pick up through the afternoon, so mornings tend to fish calmer and more consistently. Treat specific access arrangements as provisional until confirmed locally before a trip.
