A southwesterly has held for most of a day, running warmer than the water (11°C air against 9°C water). Expect fish at the north-eastern end — the bank it is blowing into — where the drift piles food, colour and warmth together. This reads the upper water, though — a bottom bait at range feels it far less than a floater or a fish in the margins. The Minipi watershed is the world's most famous destination for trophy brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis). Lake and river system producing brook trout averaging 2–3 kg with fish over 4 kg regularly caught — sizes virtually unknown elsewhere. Woolly Bugger (olive and black), Muddler Minnow, and streamers dominate the lake fishing; dry flies (Royal Wulff, Elk Hair Caddis) effective in tributaries during insect activity. Remote fly-in lodge access only. Season July–August. This is the benchmark brook trout fishery worldwide.

    Minipi Watershed is the benchmark trophy brook trout fishery. Access is exclusively through fly-in lodges (primarily Minipi Lodge, plus outpost camps) operating from Happy Valley–Goose Bay. No road access. Catch-and-release is the expectation — these are wild Labrador fish of exceptional size, 2–4 kg typical, 5+ kg known. NL provincial fishing licence required plus lodge access. Fly fishing only is standard lodge policy. Lee Wulff fished here in the 1950s; the fishery remains pristine precisely because access is controlled.
