How to fish it · for trout
When
Current conditions suit Kailzie Trout and Salmon Fishery well for summer tactics. The ripple should help fish move and feed more confidently. Early morning is often the most productive window in summer — make the most of it.
Where
Start with Diawl Bach (12-14) — on the bob / top dropper. If that does not produce, switch depth or speed before changing the pattern entirely.
The plan
Plan A

Start with Diawl Bach (12-14) — on the bob / top dropper. If that does not produce, switch depth or speed before changing the pattern entirely.

Plan B

Fish early and late, try deeper during the heat of the day with a fast-sinking line.

Watch for

Evening tends to be the best period in summer — stay late if you can for a sedge or spinner fall.

Bank

Bank fishing near inflows, dam walls, and weed beds. Move to find feeding fish.

About this water

A compact Borders fishery on the Upper Tweed, offering both a two-acre fly lake and two miles of river with fifteen named pools — an unusual combination on a single day ticket. The lake holds trophy rainbows (record 18lb 7oz) with golden, blue, and tiger trout alongside stocked and wild browns; trickle stocking keeps fish in good condition. The river beat holds wild browns, grayling, and a salmon run from July through October. A 3.25lb grayling on a nymph from the Tweed pools is an entirely realistic ambition.
