Ayasse

The Ayasse drops out of Lago Misérin at the head of the Champorcher valley and runs about twenty-four kilometres down to the Dora Baltea near Hône — a proper mountain torrent, clear year-round bar the odd coloured hour after heavy rain, alternating deep pools with long shallow glides.

How to fish it · for Rainbow Trout
When
Stocked weekly, so the best fishing often follows a fresh drop — ask locally or simply fish soon after the season opens on 18 April. Runs to 14 October, dawn to dusk, seven days a week.
Where
The two-kilometre reserve between the old Brun intake and the Mellier canal — deep pools alternating with longer shallow glides, typical steep-valley torrent structure.
Method
Nothing fussy — spinner, bait or fly all take fish here, and there's no catch-and-release requirement. Minimum size 25cm, six fish per permit, up to three permits a day.
Kit
9 ft #5/6 for a small mountain torrent. Nymph or small streamer on a floating line covers most of the water.
Why this works
Water at 18.8°C — above the brown trout caution line (18°C). Fish dawn or dusk only. Land it fast, wet hands, no air shots.

Rainbow Trout fly box

A fuller Italian trout and grayling box for the southern Alps and northern limestone/alpine systems. It keeps the marble-trout streamer accent, but adds proper grayling dries and bugs, competition nymphs, caddis/olive work, terrestrials, pocket-water dries and alpine lake patterns.

About this water

The Ayasse drops out of Lago Misérin at the head of the Champorcher valley and runs about twenty-four kilometres down to the Dora Baltea near Hône — a proper mountain torrent, clear year-round bar the odd coloured hour after heavy rain, alternating deep pools with long shallow glides. The managed tourist reserve sits above the village, roughly two kilometres of water between the old Brun power-plant intake and the Mellier canal, restocked weekly with rainbow trout and the occasional fish pushing a kilogram. It isn't wild fishing in the way the Dora Baltea's no-kill water is wild fishing — the valley's original wild trout stock reportedly still lingers in the system, by the consortium's own account, but rainbows are what you're actually casting at here — and there's an honesty in that worth having. Bait, spinner or fly all work; nobody minds which you choose.
