The Avoca is formed at the Meeting of the Waters, where the Avonmore and Avonbeg join, and runs on through Avoca to the sea at Arklow, gathering the Aughrim on the way. Its history is a sad one for an angler: drainage from the old Avoca copper mines scarred the main river, and its trout fishing remains limited because of it. The better wild-trout water is upstream, on the Avonmore and Avonbeg headwaters before they meet.
